NEW WAYS OF DOING AND THINKING TO TACKLE THE UNKNOWN It’s like going for Expedition with No map and Not Knowing the Destination.

Design Thinking Lies on Five Principles :

We strive to bring the best in your kid by encouraging them to “bring questions & build answers”. During our interactions with the kids we make them think and apply the concepts of design thinking and STEM Learning. STEM is the future. STEM makes creators, thinkers, problem solvers, doers, innovators, and inventors. Exposing kids to simple STEM ideas at an early age today sets a foundation for higher learning tomorrow. We believe that young kids are natural scientist; they are curious about the world around them and readily inclined to discover new things! !

Our current education system is very analytical in nature, which is great but we need to develop the ability to be more instinctive. It is useful that we expose our future landscaper- children, to a powerful problem solving toolkit known as Design Thinking, to find solutions to increasingly complex challenges of tomorrow regardless of the work they choose. The process of learning design thinking will push children to learn through thinking rather than through memorization, developing them into thinkers of tomorrow which have far greater value in the long term. The idea is to provide the kids an opportunity to explore and unleash their potential. This helps in developing their critical thinking, enhancing their problem solving skills.

The 3 basic things that they start analyzing are –

What is the problem they are trying to solve?

Who has the problem?

Why is it important to solve the problem?

How do we do it?

We group the kids in batches of 2-3, we give kids couple of challenges and ask them to choose the one that interest them, and then we ask them to explore various solutions to solve the problem. We teach them to write the problem statement in their own way. The kids have to identify the stakeholders & users who are involved in solving the problem. We help them create Concept Maps; help map the current scenarios to identify the pain points. We provide mentorship and coaching to the kids during their ideation & storyboarding, we make them learn how to derive goals from ideas by capturing the impact. Finally, we provide them with the tools to do prototyping.

This thinking exercise brings out collaboration, teamwork, dynamic discussions, reading relevant books, research orientation. We teach the kids on the fundamental principles of Design thinking, the process and the awareness of the tools used. At the end of every day, each kid is asked to reflect on what they learnt and what they would do tomorrow.

Mode of coaching – Case studies, detailed presentations, individual & group exercises, games, riddles, puzzles, research, mathematical and scientific approach.

Do we need to bring anything or come prepared with?

No. But please come with an open mind and be prepared for ambiguity. We will provide the necessary tools like – books, internet, and videos so that the kids can do their research.

Benefits for the kid?

This brings out their best to solve complex problems and gives them tools to handle such ambiguous situations in future. Uncover opportunities and hidden potential of the group. Learn how to align various stakeholders towards a single purpose, create a culture of design & empathy. Understand tools and techniques that are shaping the world today. Everyday there is a takeaway for the Children on STEM Learning Projects.

 What are the eligibility criteria?

There is no eligibility criterion. However, it’s super critical that your kid comes with open mind and is prepared for ambiguity.

Sample exercises:

Grade group 1 to 4: Building a house for their pet ’s; How can they feed birds by creating bird feeders; Design a playground for your pet; create the food chain; Create your own room?

Grade group 5 to 8: How to connect 2 cities over a river? ; How to keep our lakes in Bengaluru clean? How to manage waste?
